Preschool Music Programs

Preschool music programs should be interactive and engaging since preschool children love to move and play. This age group is fascinated by moving their bodies, experimenting with their voices, and having fun. Consequently, quality music programs for pre-school children meet the natural desires of children and other requirements.

Preschool music programs should introduce children to a variety of music. Children should have fun listening to familiar childrens tunes, like Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star. However, this age group enjoys hearing new music and learning new songs. At this age, they are receptive to jazz, classical, hip hop, reggae, and various other music genres.

The preschoolers should not only be listening to music, but they should be moving to music, too. The various rhythms, beats, and tempos of music provide interactive opportunities for children. Children can imagine being different animals when hearing various sounds in the music. For instance, they can slither like snakes or hop like kangaroos as they listen to music that complements the movement of these animals. They can move fast or slowly in response to the musics tempo.

Quality preschool music programs should encourage children to make music themselves. Whether the children are using musical instruments or their bodies, they should have opportunities to create music. Pre-school children enjoy beating on drums, shaking maracas, clinking on triangles, and using most instruments. They like to clap their hands, stomp their feet, pat on their laps, and more. A program that encourages children to use their voices, hands, legs, feet, and other body parts as instruments promotes physical awareness.

Also, music programs for preschool children should encourage children to share what theyve learned with others, especially caregivers. When children learn new songs or musical techniques, if parents arent included directly in the experience, children should have an opportunity through special programs, whether an open-house environment or public performance, to demonstrate what theyre learning. Another way to involve parents in the educational experience is to have CDs with the classroom music on them available for students to use at home in order to reinforce their learning and music experiences.

Although children can learn math, science, foreign languages, and other subjects through music, lessons learned through music should be fun. At this age, children learn thorough play, and they can retain information while having fun. Without a music program being intense, they reap benefits. Fine motor skills and cognitive abilities are enhanced. They develop socially and emotionally. An early positive experience with music paves the way for children to have positive academic experiences later in life.

Music enthralls, soothes, entertains, and educates. The benefits of music are numerous. Whether singing songs, playing instruments, or dancing to music, children involved in a strong preschool music program not only enjoy themselves, but they learn about music and much more.
